  •   What is Scholarship Day?

    Purpose

The conduct of scholarly work is a critical part of the medical education experience. Scholarship Day is intended to provide a venue for students to share the results of their ongoing scholarly projects with peers, students from other years, and the faculty of the school. For some students, the poster will represent the completion of the requirements for a formal Thesis.

    Scholarly projects can include:
    • Original research (basic science or clinical) conducted during years 2 through 4 of medical school. A continuation of STTP research is acceptable, but new information and a new poster are required.
    • Teaching innovation with evidence of evaluation by users
    • Studies of health policy and practices
    • Case presentation with a review of related research
    Presentation Options
    • Poster Presentation - Most projects will be prepared as posters. In this venue, students will be available to discuss their posters with faculty and other students. This will be followed by a faculty-led discussion of the posters.
    • Oral Presentation - Up to 10 abstracts will be selected by merit to be presented at the Plenary Session as 6 minute oral presentations, followed by a 3 minute question and answer session. Invited participants should prepare a Powerpoint Presentation with the assistance of their research mentor. All students will attend the plenary session as observers and are encouraged to ask meaningful questions.
    Award of Merit

Students are eligible to receive the Award of Merit for Scholarship. The quality of the abstract, poster, presentation, and discussion will be graded by faculty. Any student who attains the required level will be recognized at Graduation.

    Prizes

Students who attend Scholarship Day will be eligible to win one of 6 $50.00 gift certificates to the Health Sciences Bookstore. During registration in the morning, students may pick up an entry card that they may complete by visiting posters and attending the plenary session.
