  • Abstract

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a multifaceted neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by challenges with restricted interests and interactions, repetitive behavior, and social communication. Patients with ASD often face health conditions such as atopic dermatitis (AD) and mental health disorders, impacting their quality of life. With escalating rates of autism diagnoses, a concurrent rise in dermatological concerns, such as AD, are anticipated. The absence of established guidelines for managing patients with ASD hinders an improved quality of care, necessitating evidence-based interventions. As experts in the field of pediatric dermatology and developmental pediatrics, our objective is to provide clinical insight into managing children with both ASD and AD. Our guidance will emphasize strategies for pre-clinic planning, communication strategies, sensory integration techniques, and caregiver education and empowerment. We aim to address a critical need for practical approaches in enhancing the well-being of children facing the complex intersection of ASD and dermatological conditions, providing clinicians with valuable tools to improve patient care.
